Which NHL player scored seven goals in one game, an NHL record?
Answer
Joe Malone
Answer
Joe Malone
Joe Malone scored seven goals in one NHL game, an NHL record.
Malone set the mark for the Quebec Bulldogs on January 31, 1920, during a 10–6 victory over the Toronto St. Patricks. His seven goals remain the most scored by one player in a single NHL game. Malone was an early professional hockey superstar and was known by the nickname “Phantom” because of his elusive skating and scoring.
The record is sometimes mixed up with the NHL single-game points record, which has involved players recording eight points through combinations of goals and assists. Malone’s achievement concerns goals alone. He also scored five goals in a game several times, showing why he was one of the league’s most prolific early finishers. Malone was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1950.
