Peanuts is the newspaper comic strip featuring Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Lucy van Pelt.
Charles M. Schulz created Peanuts, which debuted on October 2, 1950. The strip follows a group of children whose conversations and frustrations explore friendship, school, family life, insecurity, and imagination. Snoopy, Charlie Brown’s beagle, gradually became one of its most recognizable characters.
The strip’s cast includes Linus van Pelt, Lucy van Pelt, Schroeder, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Franklin. Although the characters are children, Schulz wrote their dialogue with a mature clarity that helped the strip appeal to readers of different ages.
Peanuts became a major multimedia property through animated television specials, including A Charlie Brown Christmas, which first aired in 1965. It is sometimes incorrectly treated as only a children’s franchise, but the original strip’s humor often depends on adult-like anxieties and philosophical observations.
