Which Newcastle United winger was sold to Barcelona in summer 2026?

The Newcastle United winger sold to Barcelona in summer 2026 was Anthony Gordon.

Barcelona agreed a deal with Newcastle for Gordon in May 2026, reportedly worth €70 million initially plus up to €10 million in add-ons. He signed a five-year contract and became Barcelona’s first major addition for the 2026–27 campaign.

Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023. At Newcastle he developed from a promising wide attacker into an England international, combining direct running, pressing and the ability to play from either flank. He made 152 appearances for Newcastle and scored 39 goals in all competitions before leaving.

The transfer can be confused with Newcastle’s other wide players. Miguel Almirón had already left the club, while Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes remained separate options in the squad. Gordon’s earlier Everton connection is also important: he was not a Newcastle academy product, but came through Everton’s youth system before making his senior breakthrough there.
