Rome, New York, hosted the 1999 Woodstock festival.
Woodstock '99 was held at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome from July 22 to July 25, 1999. The festival was intended to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Woodstock and featured acts such as Korn, Limp Bizkit, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Metallica.
Unlike the 1969 festival’s rural dairy-farm setting, Woodstock '99 used a large former military airfield and a heavily commercialized production model. High temperatures, expensive water, poor crowd conditions, and escalating disorder contributed to a troubled final weekend.
The event is often confused with Woodstock '94, which took place near Saugerties. Neither revival was held in the town of Woodstock itself, nor at the original Bethel site.
