Which 1969 music festival featured Bob Dylan as its headline performer?

The story behind the answer

The 1969 Isle of Wight Festival featured Bob Dylan as its headline performer.

The festival was held on August 29 and 30, 1969, at Wootton Creek near Wootton, on the Isle of Wight in England. Dylan’s appearance was highly anticipated because it was his first major concert performance in nearly three years after his 1966 motorcycle accident.

Dylan performed with members of The Band, presenting a set that included songs from his recent recordings as well as earlier material. Other performers included The Who, Joe Cocker, and Free.

The event is sometimes confused with the much larger Isle of Wight Festival of 1970, which attracted an enormous crowd and featured Jimi Hendrix among its major acts. The 1969 edition is specifically notable for Dylan’s return to the live stage.
