Which New York skyscraper did Georgia O'Keeffe paint in her Radiator Building series?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe painted the American Radiator Building in her Radiator Building series.

The New York skyscraper became the subject of several works after O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz moved to the Shelton Hotel in 1925. Its dark facade, Gothic-inspired crown, and glowing red-and-black design offered a striking urban image.

Her painting Radiator Building—Night, New York, made in 1927, is the best-known work from the series. O'Keeffe transformed the building into a simplified, dramatic composition rather than recording it as a neutral architectural view.

The building stood at 40 West 40th Street and was originally associated with the American Radiator Company. It is now known as the Bryant Park Hotel. The subject is often confused with the Chrysler Building because both are famous New York Art Deco skyscrapers.
