Which New York photographer married Georgia O'Keeffe in 1924?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz married Georgia O'Keeffe in 1924. Stieglitz was a pioneering American photographer and influential gallery owner who helped introduce European modern art to audiences in the United States.

Stieglitz first encountered O'Keeffe's abstract charcoal drawings in 1916 after her friend Anita Pollitzer showed them to him. He exhibited the drawings without O'Keeffe's initial permission, beginning a professional and personal relationship that became central to both artists' biographies.

The marriage lasted until Stieglitz's death in 1946, although the couple spent much of their later lives apart. Stieglitz photographed O'Keeffe repeatedly, producing hundreds of images. Their relationship is often discussed alongside his role at the gallery known as An American Place and his earlier galleries, including 291.
