Which New York City Subway station served the 1964 New York World’s Fair at Flushing Meadows?
Answer
Mets–Willets Point
Answer
Mets–Willets Point
Mets–Willets Point served the 1964 New York World’s Fair at Flushing Meadows–Corona Park.
The station is on the IRT Flushing Line and is served by the 7 train. It was heavily used during the fair, which occupied the park in Queens in 1964 and 1965. The station’s platforms and surrounding facilities were expanded to handle large crowds attending the international exhibition.
The station was later associated with Shea Stadium and now serves Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. That sports connection explains the Mets portion of its current name. It is sometimes confused with Flushing–Main Street, the eastern terminal of the 7 service, but the two stations are several stops apart.
