The A train is the New York City Subway service that serves both Rockaway Park and Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
The route runs between northern Manhattan and Queens, with branches and related service reaching the Rockaway Peninsula. Its Manhattan corridor includes the Eighth Avenue Line, which passes through the Upper West Side before continuing north toward Inwood.
The A is one of the longest routes in the system and connects several very different urban environments: Inwood, Midtown, Downtown Brooklyn, Queens, and the beaches of the Rockaways. Some A trains serve Far Rockaway, while others serve Rockaway Park.
The C train shares much of the Manhattan and Brooklyn corridor but does not continue to the Rockaways. The S Rockaway Park Shuttle serves the peninsula locally, but it does not run through Manhattan.
