Which New York City Subway station is the only one located on Roosevelt Island?

The story behind the answer

Roosevelt Island station is the only New York City Subway station located on Roosevelt Island.

The station is served by the F train and opened in 1989 as part of the extension of the IND 63rd Street Line. It is underground beneath the island, which lies in the East River between Manhattan and Queens. The station provides a direct subway connection for residents, workers, and visitors using the island’s residential, educational, and cultural facilities.

Roosevelt Island is also served by the Roosevelt Island Tramway, but the tram and subway are separate systems. The tram opened in 1976 and crosses to Manhattan, while the F train travels through the 63rd Street Tunnel and connects the island with both boroughs through the subway network.

The station is often confused with Queensboro Plaza because both are near the Queensboro Bridge and serve the broader area. Queensboro Plaza is in Queens, whereas Roosevelt Island station is physically on the island itself.
