The G train is the only regular New York City Subway service that does not enter Manhattan.
The G runs between Court Square in Queens and Church Avenue in Brooklyn, using the IND Crosstown Line for its entire route. It provides a north–south connection between the two boroughs without traveling through Manhattan.
The route began operating in 1937, when the Crosstown Line opened between Queens Plaza and Nassau Avenue. Unlike many subway services, the G has no Manhattan segment and does not directly connect with the numbered IRT lines there.
A common mix-up is confusing the G with the L. The L also avoids Manhattan on its eastern section, but it travels through Manhattan between Brooklyn and Queens. The M likewise serves Manhattan during part of its route.
