Which New York City Subway line is served by the G train?
Answer
IND Crosstown Line
Answer
IND Crosstown Line
The G train serves the New York City Subway’s IND Crosstown Line.
The IND Crosstown Line runs between Court Square in Queens and Church Avenue in Brooklyn. Unlike many major subway routes, it does not enter Manhattan. The G service provides a north–south connection between the two boroughs and links with several Manhattan-bound routes.
The line was built by the Independent Subway System, or IND. Its route crosses other subway corridors at stations such as Court Square, Bedford–Nostrand Avenues, and Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets. The G also connects with the IND Culver Line in Brooklyn.
The G train is sometimes mistaken for a shuttle because it has a relatively short route and does not reach Manhattan. It is a regular full-time service, however. The Crosstown Line’s distinctive role is its cross-borough movement without a Manhattan segment.
