Which New York City railway terminal has 44 platforms, the most of any station in the world?
Answer
Grand Central Terminal
Answer
Grand Central Terminal
Grand Central Terminal is the New York City railway terminal with 44 platforms, the most of any station in the world.
The terminal opened in Midtown Manhattan in 1913, replacing Grand Central Station. Its Beaux-Arts design includes the famous Main Concourse, whose astronomical ceiling mural and four-faced clock are among New York’s best-known railway landmarks.
The 44 platforms serve 67 tracks, making Grand Central an unusually large terminal complex. Metro-North Railroad operates commuter services from the terminal to destinations in New York and Connecticut, including the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines.
A common mix-up is the name: “Grand Central Station” refers historically to an earlier station and is often used informally, but the present terminal’s official name is Grand Central Terminal. The building also connects with the New York City Subway and opened the Grand Central Madison extension in 2023.
