Which New York City borough has no New York City Subway stations?
Answer
Staten Island
Answer
Staten Island
Staten Island is the only New York City borough with no New York City Subway stations.
The borough is served by the Staten Island Railway, a separate rapid-transit railroad operated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. It runs along the island’s east side from St. George to Tottenville, but it is not part of the numbered and lettered New York City Subway network.
Passengers can connect between the Staten Island Railway and the subway at the St. George Ferry Terminal by taking the Staten Island Ferry to Lower Manhattan. The ferry and railway therefore provide important links, even though subway tracks do not reach the borough.
The other four boroughs—Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx—contain New York City Subway stations. Proposals and concepts for a direct subway connection to Staten Island have appeared over the years, but none has become an operating subway route.
