Which New York art school did Georgia O'Keeffe attend before studying at the University of Virginia?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe attended the Art Students League of New York before studying at the University of Virginia.

The Art Students League was founded in New York City in 1875 as an independent art school. It offered flexible instruction and became an important center for American artists, including many students who later shaped modern art.

O'Keeffe studied there in 1907 and won a still-life prize taught under the influence of William Merritt Chase. Her training also included the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later academic work at the University of Virginia, where she studied with Alon Bement.

The League should not be confused with the National Academy of Design, another historic New York institution. O'Keeffe's education moved through several schools and teachers, but her later work increasingly rejected conventional academic approaches in favor of personal abstraction.
