Which New York art gallery did Alfred Stieglitz open after closing 291 and operate from 1925 to 1929?

The story behind the answer

The Intimate Gallery was the New York gallery Alfred Stieglitz operated from 1925 to 1929. It followed his earlier gallery, 291, and preceded An American Place.

Stieglitz used the Intimate Gallery to present modern American artists, including Georgia O'Keeffe. The gallery’s name reflected his interest in a smaller, more focused setting for exhibitions rather than a large commercial showroom.

O'Keeffe’s relationship with Stieglitz meant that her work appeared in venues he directed, but her career cannot be reduced to those galleries. She also exhibited elsewhere and developed a distinctive body of work through painting, drawing, and sculpture.

After the Intimate Gallery closed in 1929, Stieglitz opened An American Place. That later gallery remained active until his death in 1946 and continued to be an important venue for O'Keeffe’s work.
