Which New Mexico village was home to Georgia O'Keeffe's restored historic house?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiu was the New Mexico village where Georgia O'Keeffe had her restored historic home.

O'Keeffe acquired the abandoned adobe house in Abiquiu in 1945 and had it restored over several years. The property included a famous courtyard wall and a black door, features that became important subjects in her paintings and photographs. She moved into the house in 1949 and used it as a home and studio.

The Abiquiu property differs from O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch residence. Ghost Ranch was the wider landscape where she found many subjects, while the Abiquiu house gave her a more settled base and a distinctive architectural motif. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum now preserves and interprets the home and studio.

Abiquiu is often confused with Santa Fe because the museum dedicated to O'Keeffe is in Santa Fe. It is also distinct from Taos, another New Mexico art center associated with artists and writers, but not the location of O'Keeffe's historic home.
