Which New Mexico town is home to Georgia O'Keeffe's former house and studio?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiú is home to Georgia O'Keeffe's former house and studio in New Mexico.

O'Keeffe acquired the Abiquiú property in 1945 and spent years restoring it. The house had originally been part of a hacienda associated with the village. Its courtyard wall, black door, and surrounding landscape became recurring visual subjects in her work.

The property is distinct from O'Keeffe’s other well-known New Mexico base at Ghost Ranch. Ghost Ranch lies farther north and was important to her landscape painting, while the Abiquiú house became her primary home and studio after she moved there permanently in 1949.

The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum preserves and manages the historic property. Tours focus on the rooms, studio arrangements, courtyard, and views that shaped her artistic practice. Santa Fe is the location of the museum, not the town containing this house.
