Abiquiú contains the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio, preserved as a National Historic Landmark.
O'Keeffe's Abiquiú house and studio became her principal winter home after she acquired and renovated the property in the 1940s. The building, garden, walls, and surrounding views were important parts of her daily working environment.
The site includes architectural features that appeared in her paintings, including a distinctive door set in an adobe wall. O'Keeffe returned to this subject repeatedly, turning an ordinary architectural detail into a carefully observed geometric motif.
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe manages tours of the home and studio. The property is separate from the museum's main gallery, and reservations are required for many visits.
