Georgia O'Keeffe's home and studio acquired in 1945 were in Abiquiú, New Mexico.
O'Keeffe first saw the abandoned adobe house during the 1930s and was drawn to its walls, doorway, and surrounding landscape. She eventually bought the property in 1945 and had it restored, later using it as a home and working studio.
The Abiquiú property became one of the most important physical settings of her later life. The courtyard door and the surrounding landscape appear in multiple works, showing how O'Keeffe transformed a specific architectural detail into a recurring visual motif.
Abiquiú is distinct from Santa Fe, where the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is located, and from Ghost Ranch, where O'Keeffe also lived and worked. These three New Mexico places are connected but are not interchangeable.
