Ghost Ranch was the New Mexico site Georgia O'Keeffe repeatedly used as a subject.
Ghost Ranch is a dramatic retreat near Abiquiú in northern New Mexico, known for multicolored cliffs, arid valleys, and broad skies. O'Keeffe first visited the area in the 1930s and painted its formations repeatedly, including the distinctive geological feature she called the “White Place.”
The site became one of the clearest visual signatures of her New Mexico period. It is sometimes confused with her Abiquiú home, but the two places are separate: she owned a house in the village of Abiquiú and also spent time at Ghost Ranch. Today Ghost Ranch is associated with the Presbyterian conference center and with the landscapes that also appeared in films and photographs.
