Which New Mexico site became Georgia O'Keeffe's best-known home and studio?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiú became Georgia O'Keeffe's best-known home and studio in New Mexico.

O'Keeffe acquired the Abiquiú house in 1945 after renting it for years and spent substantial time restoring it. The property includes a famous courtyard wall with a black door, a motif that appeared in several of her paintings. Its austere adobe forms and high desert setting gave her a practical place to live, work, and observe the landscape.

O'Keeffe also maintained a home at Ghost Ranch, farther north, which is frequently confused with the Abiquiú property. Ghost Ranch was important to her landscape practice, while the Abiquiú residence became her principal home during much of her later life. The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio is now preserved as a historic site and opened to public tours through the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.
