Which New Mexico location supplied Georgia O'Keeffe with many of her landscape subjects before she moved to Abiquiú?

The story behind the answer

Ghost Ranch supplied Georgia O'Keeffe with many landscape subjects before she moved to Abiquiú.

O'Keeffe first visited Ghost Ranch, north of Abiquiú, in 1935 and began spending part of each year there. The property offered dramatic cliffs, mesas, desert colors, and wide views that became central to her New Mexico paintings.

She rented and later maintained a small house at Ghost Ranch, using the area as a base for painting and collecting natural forms. Works associated with the site include paintings of cliffs, hills, bones, and the surrounding high-desert terrain.

Ghost Ranch and O'Keeffe's Abiquiú home are not the same place. Ghost Ranch is a broader landscape and retreat area, while the Abiquiú property was her private adobe residence. Both locations are now important destinations for understanding the settings behind her work.
