Which New Mexico location inspired Georgia O'Keeffe's painting series of a white church?

The story behind the answer

Ranchos de Taos inspired Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings of the white church known as San Francisco de Asís Mission Church.

O'Keeffe first visited New Mexico in 1929 and repeatedly painted its architecture, cliffs, bones, and broad desert spaces. The church at Ranchos de Taos became one of her most recognizable subjects. Her paintings presented the adobe building in simplified forms rather than as a conventional architectural record.

The church was built in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and remains an important example of Spanish Colonial adobe architecture. O'Keeffe's images helped make the structure widely known in the history of American art.

Ranchos de Taos is often confused with Abiquiú or Ghost Ranch, both strongly connected with O'Keeffe's New Mexico life. Those places were important to her, but the famous church subject is located in Ranchos de Taos, near Taos.
