Which New Mexico location became Georgia O'Keeffe’s home and creative base from 1949?

The story behind the answer

Abiquiú became Georgia O'Keeffe’s New Mexico home and creative base from 1949.

O'Keeffe had first visited New Mexico in 1929 and returned regularly for decades. She was drawn to the region’s cliffs, churches, desert light, and unusually shaped hills. In 1949, three years after Alfred Stieglitz died, she moved permanently from New York to New Mexico.

Her Abiquiú property included a famous adobe house with a courtyard wall and a distinctive door. The house and nearby landscapes appeared repeatedly in her paintings, often transformed into simplified shapes and strong color fields rather than rendered as ordinary topographical views.

Santa Fe was another major place in her life and became the location of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, but Abiquiú was her home. Ghost Ranch, farther north, was also crucial to her work. These locations are related, yet they are not interchangeable answers to a question about her residence.
