Which New Mexico landmark appears in Georgia O'Keeffe's 1930 painting Ranchos Church, No. I?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's 1930 painting Ranchos Church, No. I depicts San Francisco de Asís Mission Church.

The historic adobe church stands in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. O'Keeffe painted and drew the structure repeatedly, focusing on its massive adobe walls, sculptural silhouette, and changing effects of light. The church became one of the best-known architectural subjects in her New Mexico work.

O'Keeffe first visited New Mexico in 1917 and returned regularly from 1929. The region offered subjects unlike those of her earlier New York and Texas periods, including adobe buildings, cliffs, desert plants, and animal bones.

The church is sometimes casually called the Ranchos de Taos church, but its formal name is San Francisco de Asís Mission Church. It is also distinct from the church at Abiquiú, another New Mexico place associated with O'Keeffe.
