Which New Mexico home did Georgia O'Keeffe acquire in 1945 and later make her primary residence?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe acquired the Abiquiú home in 1945 and later made it her primary residence.

The property was a deteriorating adobe compound in the village of Abiquiú, New Mexico. O'Keeffe saw its potential and spent years arranging for repairs and restoration. The house had a famous black door opening onto a courtyard, a feature she painted repeatedly in simplified, geometric compositions.

After the house was restored, O'Keeffe moved there from Ghost Ranch in 1949. The Abiquiú home gave her a more settled base while remaining close to the landscapes that inspired her. She continued working there for decades.

The property is now preserved by the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and opened to the public through guided tours. It is often confused with Ghost Ranch, where O'Keeffe also lived and worked, but the two sites are distinct locations in northern New Mexico.
