Abiquiu House became Georgia O'Keeffe's principal New Mexico residence.
The house is in Abiquiu, New Mexico, and includes a famous adobe wall and door that O'Keeffe repeatedly painted. She purchased the neglected property in 1945 and worked with Maria Chabot to restore it. The restoration transformed the building into a practical home and studio.
O'Keeffe moved permanently to New Mexico in 1949 and used the Abiquiu property as her main base for much of the rest of her life. The building's courtyard, door, walls, and surrounding landscape became recurring subjects in her art.
Ghost Ranch was also crucial to O'Keeffe and was the setting for many paintings, but it was not the name of the principal house asked about here. Taos Pueblo is a historic community, not O'Keeffe's residence, while Dodge House is associated with another New Mexico location.
