Abiquiú was the New Mexico community where Georgia O’Keeffe’s restored house and studio were located. She purchased the property in 1945 and later made it her primary home and workplace.
The house had been abandoned and required extensive restoration. O’Keeffe was particularly drawn to its courtyard wall and gate, which became recurring subjects in her paintings. The property offered both practical shelter and a concentrated visual environment for her work.
The Georgia O’Keeffe Home and Studio is now preserved as a historic site. Tours and conservation work show how the rooms, garden, and surrounding landscape related to her artistic practice.
Abiquiú is sometimes confused with Ghost Ranch, where O’Keeffe spent summers and painted dramatic landscapes. The two places are in the same broad region but are distinct locations.
