Georgia O'Keeffe's long-term home and studio at MP 15 was in Abiquiú, New Mexico.
The property was a nineteenth-century adobe house that O'Keeffe discovered during her New Mexico travels. She purchased it in 1945 and spent years restoring it, eventually making it one of her principal residences and workspaces. The house's courtyard, black door, walls, and surrounding landscape appear repeatedly in her art.
“MP 15” refers to Milepost 15 on U.S. Route 84, the road near the property. The home is distinct from Ghost Ranch, where O'Keeffe also lived and worked. Ghost Ranch is farther north and is associated with open high-desert scenery, while the Abiquiú house is remembered especially for its architectural details.
The Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio is now preserved as a historic site. It offers a direct view of the domestic setting behind some of her best-known New Mexico paintings.
