Georgia O'Keeffe's preserved home and studio are in Abiquiu, New Mexico. She acquired the historic adobe house in 1945 and renovated it over several years, making it one of the places most closely associated with her mature work.
The property includes the rooms where O'Keeffe lived and worked, as well as architectural features she repeatedly painted. A door opening onto a walled garden became a particularly famous subject. The house offered views of the surrounding landscape and a private setting for her daily practice.
The Abiquiu property is distinct from O'Keeffe's Ghost Ranch residence, which she also used in northern New Mexico. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum manages tours and preservation of the home and studio. Because Santa Fe is the nearest major cultural center and the museum is located there, some visitors mistakenly identify Santa Fe as the home's location.
