Which New Mexico city is home to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum?
Answer
Santa Fe
Answer
Santa Fe
Santa Fe is home to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.
The museum opened in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1997, more than a decade after O'Keeffe's death. It was established to celebrate her art, life, and continuing influence, and it became the first museum dedicated solely to an internationally renowned woman artist when it opened.
O'Keeffe moved to New Mexico permanently in 1949 after spending years visiting the region. The area's desert landscapes, adobe buildings, bones, and distinctive plants became central subjects in her work. Santa Fe later became an important center for presenting and studying that legacy.
The museum is not the same place as O'Keeffe's former homes. Her Abiquiú house and studio, along with Ghost Ranch, are north of Santa Fe and are managed separately. The museum's collection and exhibitions provide the broader institutional context for those sites.
