Which New Mexico city became Georgia O'Keeffe's final home, where she died in 1986?

The story behind the answer

Santa Fe became Georgia O'Keeffe's final home, and she died there in 1986.

O'Keeffe moved permanently to Santa Fe in 1949, after years of spending part of each year in New Mexico. The city gave her access to the region's distinctive landscapes, architecture, and light, all of which remained important to her work. She continued painting into old age, with assistance as her eyesight and health declined.

O'Keeffe died on March 6, 1986, at the age of 98. Her ashes were scattered at a place in New Mexico that she had loved, rather than being kept in a conventional grave. Santa Fe later became the home of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum.

Taos and Abiquiu are also strongly associated with O'Keeffe, which can cause confusion. She visited and worked in several New Mexico locations, but Santa Fe was her final home and the city where she died.
