Georgia O'Keeffe's Abiquiú house became her home after its restoration in 1945.
O'Keeffe acquired the abandoned adobe house in Abiquiú, New Mexico, and had it restored so it could serve as a residence and studio. She began using the house as a home in 1945, while also spending time at Ghost Ranch.
A famous feature of the property is a door opening in an adobe wall, which O'Keeffe painted repeatedly. The structure and its surrounding landscape became subjects in their own right, showing how her daily environment entered her art.
The Abiquiú house is distinct from her Ghost Ranch residence. Both places were connected with O'Keeffe, but the restored adobe home is specifically associated with Abiquiú and is now preserved as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio.
