Played by Charlotte Rampling, Dr. Vogel arrives in Miami while consulting with Miami Metro on the Brain Surgeon case. The killer removes pieces of victims’ brains, and Vogel’s expertise in psychopathy makes her an unusual and important addition to the investigation.
Vogel’s interest in Dexter is personal as well as professional. She recognizes details about his psychology and reveals that she helped shape the code associated with his methods, working with Harry Morgan in Dexter’s childhood. Her knowledge makes her one of the few people capable of understanding Dexter’s behavior without immediately accepting his public persona.
The character is sometimes confused with other women in Dexter’s orbit. Camilla Figg is a longtime Miami Metro records worker, Hannah McKay is Dexter’s season 7 love interest, and Ellen Wolf is a different character entirely.
