BBC One originally broadcast the television series Sherlock in the United Kingdom.
The modern Sherlock Holmes drama was produced for the BBC and premiered on BBC One in July 2010. Its first series consisted of three feature-length episodes, each presenting a contemporary reinterpretation of a Holmes story or motif.
BBC One was the programme’s principal domestic broadcast home across its four series and its 2016 special, “The Abominable Bride.” The channel is the BBC’s flagship television service and has traditionally carried major British drama, factual programmes and special events.
International broadcasters varied by territory, which can cause confusion when viewers remember a different channel or streaming service. In the United States, for example, the series was associated with PBS through the Masterpiece strand. Those overseas outlets did not change the original UK network: the series debuted on BBC One.
