Which NBA team did 2026 Hall of Fame inductee Doc Rivers coach to the 2008 championship?

2026 Hall of Fame inductee Doc Rivers coached the Boston Celtics to the 2008 NBA championship.

Rivers took over as Boston’s head coach in 2004 and guided the franchise through a dramatic turnaround. The Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen before the 2007–08 season, joining Paul Pierce to form a celebrated veteran core.

Boston finished the regular season with the NBA’s best record and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in six games in the Finals. The championship was the Celtics’ first since 1986 and their 17th overall at the time.

Rivers received the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2000 while coaching the Orlando Magic. He is also known for a long playing and coaching career, but his 2008 title remains the defining championship of his head-coaching résumé.
