Which National Park Service park contains the world’s largest collection of geysers?
Answer
Yellowstone National Park
Answer
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park contains the world’s largest collection of geysers.
The park sits above a major volcanic system whose heat drives hot springs, mud pots, fumaroles, and geysers. Yellowstone contains more than half of the world’s active geysers, making its hydrothermal basin unmatched in concentration.
Old Faithful is the park’s best-known geyser, but it is not the largest or the most powerful. Steamboat Geyser in Norris Geyser Basin is the world’s tallest active geyser, although its eruptions are much less predictable.
Yellowstone was established in 1872 as the world’s first national park. That designation predates the National Park Service, which was created in 1916 and later became the federal agency responsible for managing Yellowstone.
