Which NASCAR legend voices Strip Weathers, known as The King, in Pixar’s Cars?
Answer
Richard Petty
Richard Petty voices Strip Weathers, known as The King, in Pixar’s Cars.
Strip Weathers is a veteran Piston Cup champion who serves as one of the film’s most respected racers. His character is modeled on the tradition of legendary American stock-car drivers, and his nickname, The King, reflects his status within the fictional racing world.
Richard Petty was an especially fitting choice for the role. The real driver won the NASCAR Cup Series championship seven times and became one of the best-known figures in stock-car racing. The character’s voice and racing identity connect Pixar’s fictional competition with NASCAR history.
The King is not the same person as Doc Hudson, who is voiced by Paul Newman. Dale Earnhardt Jr. also appears in Cars as the voice of Junior, but he does not voice The King.
