Which musician played bass on the Ramones’ first four studio albums under the name Dee Dee Ramone?

The story behind the answer

Douglas Colvin played bass on the Ramones’ first four studio albums under the name Dee Dee Ramone.

Colvin was born in Virginia in 1951 and became the Ramones’ bassist and principal songwriter during the group’s formative years. Like the other original members, he adopted the surname Ramone, creating the band’s shared fictional-family identity. He performed on Ramones, Leave Home, Rocket to Russia and Road to Ruin.

Dee Dee also wrote or co-wrote many of the band’s best-known songs, including “Blitzkrieg Bop,” “Judy Is a Punk” and “53rd & 3rd.” He left the touring lineup in 1989 but continued recording as a solo artist. Jeffrey Hyman was Joey Ramone, the singer, while John Cummings was Johnny Ramone, the guitarist. Christopher John Ward later performed with the band as C.J. Ramone.
