Which musician played bass on the Germs’ 1979 album GI?

The story behind the answer

Lorna Doom played bass on the Germs’ 1979 album GI.

GI was the Germs’ only studio album and was released by Slash Records in October 1979. The Los Angeles punk band recorded it with vocalist Darby Crash, guitarist Pat Smear, drummer Don Bolles, and bassist Lorna Doom.

Joan Jett produced the album, helping capture the band’s abrasive, chaotic sound. Tracks such as “Lexicon Devil,” “Manimal,” and “The Other Newest One” became important documents of the early Los Angeles punk scene.

A frequent mistake is identifying Pat Smear as the bassist because he later became widely known as a guitarist, including through Nirvana and Foo Fighters. On GI, Smear played guitar, while Lorna Doom supplied the bass and remained a defining member of the original lineup.
