Which musician gave his final UK performance at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival?

The story behind the answer

Jimi Hendrix gave his final UK performance at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.

The festival was held from August 26 to August 30, 1970, near Freshwater on the Isle of Wight, off England’s southern coast. Hendrix performed with Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell as part of his post-Woodstock Experience lineup.

His set took place in the early hours of August 31, after the festival’s scheduled dates had effectively ended. Hendrix died in London on September 18, 1970, less than three weeks later, making the performance his final British concert appearance.

The event also featured The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Free, and Miles Davis. It is sometimes confused with Hendrix’s final concert anywhere, but the Isle of Wight performance was specifically his last UK appearance; his final public performance took place in Germany.
