Which musical style is listed first for Taylor Swift’s “august”?

Dream pop is the first musical style listed for Taylor Swift’s “august.”

The song is also described as guitar pop and soft rock, but dream pop appears first in its documented genre descriptions. Its dense reverb, hazy guitars, atmospheric keyboards, strings, and expansive ending contribute to that classification.

“august” is a ballad with a more pop-oriented production than much of Folklore. Aaron Dessner called it the album’s closest thing to a pop song, while critics often highlighted its cinematic arrangement and shimmering summer atmosphere.

It is easy to label every Folklore song simply as folk because of the album title and its storytelling approach. The album draws from several styles, and “august” particularly stands out for blending dream-pop textures with guitar pop and soft-rock elements.
