Which museum currently houses 'The Persistence of Memory'?
Answer
Museum of Modern Art
Answer
Museum of Modern Art
The Museum of Modern Art in New York currently houses *The Persistence of Memory*.
The painting entered MoMA’s collection in 1934, three years after Salvador Dalí completed it. It was acquired from the New York dealer Julien Levy through an anonymous friend of the Museum, who donated it to the institution. MoMA has remained its permanent collection home ever since.
The original is often confused with later reproductions, related sculptures, or Dalí’s 1954 painting *The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory*. Those works may appear in other museums or exhibitions, but they are not the 1931 original. The original painting is small, measuring only 24.1 by 33 centimeters.
MoMA’s collection page has listed the work as on view, though museum displays can change temporarily because of loans, conservation, or gallery rotations. The institution’s New York location has helped make the painting one of the most familiar works in its modern-art collection, alongside other landmark Surrealist and twentieth-century pieces.
