What is the height of the painting in inches?
Answer
9.5 inches
Answer
9.5 inches
The height of Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory is 9.5 inches.
Painted in 1931, the small oil-on-canvas work measures 9.5 by 13 inches, or about 24.1 by 33 centimeters. Its modest, almost cabinet-sized scale contrasts sharply with its enormous cultural impact as one of Surrealism’s best-known images.
The painting shows limp watches draped across a barren landscape, including a dead tree and a strange biomorphic figure in the foreground. The detailed rendering makes the objects appear tangible, even as their distorted forms challenge ordinary ideas about time and solidity.
A common mix-up is confusing this original painting with Dalí’s later The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory, which has different dimensions. The original remains in the Museum of Modern Art’s collection in New York, where it entered in 1934.
