Which museum acquired Georgia O'Keeffe's painting Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 in 2014?

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art acquired Georgia O'Keeffe's Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 in 2014. The Bentonville, Arkansas, museum bought the painting after its auction sale for about $44.4 million.

The 1932 work depicts a single white jimson weed flower on a dark field. Its large scale and close-up viewpoint reflect O'Keeffe’s practice of magnifying natural forms so viewers could study them as powerful abstract shapes.

The purchase attracted international attention because the price was then a record for a work by a female artist sold at auction. It also brought a landmark O'Keeffe painting into the collection of a museum devoted to American art.

The work is sometimes associated with New York museums because O'Keeffe exhibited there extensively, but the 2014 acquisition was by Crystal Bridges in Arkansas. The museum was founded by Alice Walton and opened in 2011.
