Fear was the MTV series that documented people attempting to investigate ghosts and other unexplained phenomena.
The reality television series premiered on MTV in 2000. Contestants were sent to locations believed to be haunted or associated with disturbing legends, where they completed investigations and challenges while being filmed with hidden and fixed cameras.
Fear emphasized atmosphere, isolation, and participant reactions rather than presenting a conventional documentary investigation. The series helped establish an MTV format in which ordinary people were placed in frightening environments and asked to confront alleged paranormal activity.
The title is often confused with Scare Tactics, a later MTV hidden-camera horror-prank series. Fear centered on contestants investigating supposedly haunted locations, while Scare Tactics staged elaborate scares for unsuspecting victims.
