Fear was the MTV reality series that premiered in 2000 and followed people searching for paranormal activity.
The program placed participants in locations presented as haunted or otherwise frightening. Contestants investigated the sites, completed tasks, and reacted to unsettling sounds, stories, and environmental conditions while cameras documented their experiences.
Fear belonged to an early wave of reality television that blended documentary-style observation with horror conventions. Its structure emphasized suspense and atmosphere rather than competition between performers in a conventional studio.
The title is easy to confuse with later paranormal programs from other networks. Scare Tactics, for example, used elaborate hidden-camera pranks, while Fear centered on participants investigating allegedly haunted places.
