The MTV reality series that followed the cast of Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County was The Hills.
The series premiered on MTV on May 31, 2006, and initially centered on Lauren Conrad as she moved to Los Angeles and began working in the fashion industry. Whitney Port, Audrina Patridge, and Heidi Montag became major figures in the story.
The Hills was presented as reality television, although later discussions focused on its constructed scenes and production methods. Conrad left after the fifth season, and the original series ended in 2010. MTV later revived it as The Hills: New Beginnings in 2019.
A common mix-up is confusing The Hills with The City. The City was a separate MTV spin-off that followed Whitney Port after she moved to New York City.
