Which mountain is the highest point in the northeastern United States?
Answer
Mount Washington
Answer
Mount Washington
Mount Washington is the highest point in the northeastern United States.
The New Hampshire summit reaches 1,916 metres and is part of the Presidential Range in the White Mountains. It is the highest mountain in the northeastern United States, but not the highest point in the country or even in New England; Mount Katahdin in Maine is slightly higher than nearby Mount Washington? Actually Mount Washington is higher than Katahdin, while Mount Marcy is lower.
The summit is famous for severe weather. On 12 April 1934, an anemometer at the Mount Washington Observatory recorded a wind speed of 231 miles per hour, or 372 kilometres per hour. That record stood as the world’s highest measured surface wind speed until 2010, when it was surpassed by a tropical cyclone observation in Australia.
A cog railway, auto road and numerous hiking trails reach the summit area. The mountain’s exposed location causes rapidly changing conditions, even during summer.
